Are you finding that your sofa is not meeting your needs?
Do you often have to pull out the folding chairs or borrow from neighbors? You can just replace the ordinary sofa with a sectional which is both flexible and comfortable. Sectionals may be of different shapes and sizes.
Let’s get acquainted with language of sectionals
First, get familiar with sectionals and their components. Two acronyms you’ll come across are RAF (right-arm facing) and LAF (left arm-facing). When facing the piece, the position of the arm on the portion is facing you is described as either left-arm or right-arm. Basic sectionals are generally comprised of four pieces: LAF and RAF sofas, LAF and RAF corner chaises, armless loveseat and ottoman. Other pieces that can be added are wedges, armless chairs, dual reclining sofas or loveseats. A wedge is used to attach an add-on piece like an armless chair or loveseat to the main piece. Consoles or end tables may be also in-built for extra comfort. With these basics in mind, now is easier to follow some tips that will help you choose the best matching sectional.
Take the right measurements
Before the search, decide where the sectional will go. Will it fill a corner, sit in a room’s center or fit along a wall? Take exact measurements of the space you want to fill: certain styles will not work for smaller spaces. You can take measurements by yourself or just call for our interior designer who will make sure every inch is used well. It’s important to take into account that there is some extra space for moving about the room. Once you have a size, decide on the type of seating: Deep seats easily accommodate tall people, while shallow seats with tight backs are ideal for short people or those who have difficulties getting up. Chaises are great for propping up legs.
Decide what you love to see in the living room
Think about and envision how you’re going to furnish your living space. What is your favorite style? Styles are so diverse – from contemporary to traditional. What fabric do you like? E.g. if you have little kids or pets at home, you had better go for the type of fabric that is stainless (See the Maier sectional sofa). Are you craving for more decorative solutions? Then choose a sectional with nail head trim, curved feet and jumbo stitching. Configurations are also important. L-shaped sectionals are great for TV viewing and U-shaped sectionals are great for receiving many guests and start a nice conversation.
Need flexibility?
If you want to reconfigure your sectional, there’re some options. Reversible sectionals are ideal because chaise can be moved from one side to another. With sectionals you can arrange each piece to your liking. To find all the options with sectionals, ask what is stationary, interlocking or separate.
Add-ons?
When exploring reclining sectionals, make sure which part specifically recline. Usually 2 seats in a sofa or loveseat piece will recline and sometimes separate reclining seats can be added. Reclining features are a huge plus for space savings, especially if you don’t have enough space for separate recliners. Poufs and ottomans can be used as an additional seating zone. Look for storage that oftentimes come in handy while tucking away remotes, blankets, etc.
Visualize
Before making the final purchase, imagine the piece in your living area. Get a picture of it and hold it up to the space. Will it work for you and your family? Does it sync with your lifestyle?? If your answer is”no” to one of those questions, keep searching. Does the sectional overwhelm the room? If you think it will, try removing some pieces. See if the fabric color will match the overall décor. Often a shade of your room’s color will work perfectly, but you can add a pop of color as a statement to make it stand out.
With these tips in mind, take time to explore all the possibilities. If you still hesitate, call for our interior designer, you will be astonished what difference a sectional might make in the room.
